Climb to New Heights in Peru!

The Machu Picchu ruins, which happen to be located between two sharp peaks, the Machu Picchu (Old Peak) and Huayna Picchu (New Peak), are home to ancient Inca remnants which date back to 1450. Machu Picchu, located 50 miles northwest of Cuzco, Peru in the Cordillera de Vilcabamba of the Andes Mountains, is about 7,970 feet above sea-level. Machu Picchu was widely discovered in 1911 by Yale University professor Hiram Bingham. Prior to 1911, only locals and a handful of missionaries and engineers knew of the site’s existence.

Machu Picchu, which was once a royal retreat for the ruler Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, is now the most economically important tourist attraction in Peru, as it draws people from around the world.

Machu Picchu was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.
