UPDATE AS OF 2/1/16: A tentative agreement between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX) has been reached and service has been restored to affected ports.
The JOC has reported that workers at the Port of New York started a strike at 10:00 am local time this morning, impacting all port terminals. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is stating that no trucks are being serviced at the port. If trucks are not already in line, they will not be allowed to queue. Companies are being discouraged by the Port Authority from dispatching trucks to the port.
The striking workers are members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA). It is not clear when the strike will end. Operations were already backlogged prior to today due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday and the suspension of operations from Winter Storm Jonas earlier this week.
Troy Container Lines cannot confirm what cargo will be sailing and/or delayed at this point, since we have not been permitted to deliver containers today. In addition, we have not been able to confirm whether the ships will be worked over the weekend.
We will continue to advise you with the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
