As flowers here in the Northeast are just starting to sprout after a long cold winter, tulip season is already in full swing throughout the Netherlands!
First blooming in the Netherlands in 1594, tulips have become a highly celebrated flower throughout the country. Every mid-March to mid-May the entire country celebrates the tulip season. The largest displays, however, are shown at Keukenhof Garden, also called the Garden of Europe, in Lisse. As the largest flower garden in the world, the Keukenhof not only displays millions of tulips, but also hosts festivities including a tulip parade, exhibitions in the park’s pavilions and is home to an operational windmill open to the public for tours.
